Wapsi-Great Western Line -
The Interstate Trail Connector between Iowa and Minnesota

The Wapsi-Great Western Line Trail was founded in 1990 - ten years after the Chicago Great Western Railroad ran its last route through the area. The railroad bed runs parallel to the treasured Wapsipinicon River. The Wapsi-Great Western Line (WGWL) flows via the railroad bed over 18 miles past lakes and through prairie, farmland, forests and marshland to the Minnesota border. The trailhead is located in the thriving rural community of Riceville, Iowa (as featured in the Smithsonian magazine).

WGWL Trailhead welcome center is open on Sundays 2:00-5:00 p.m.
